The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lolita quickly became one of my all-time favourite lipsticks, however I never got the chance to try it out when it was initially released. When it was announced that the highly anticipated Lolita II was going to be included in the Lolita Lip Duo, I thought that maybe this would be the closest I was going to get to the original Lolita. Lolita is described as a “chestnut rose”, however it used to be described as a “dusty rose” before the whole shade inconsistency fiasco hit. Lolita II started a buzz because it was supposed to be a rosier version of Lolita, but now it is described as a “terracotta nude” on the Sephora website. I purchased the pack for $23 CAD from Sephora, and each of them are 0.10 fluid ounces, which is just 0.02 fluid ounces and a $1 shy of a full-sized KVD liquid lipstick.

I already own a full-sized Lolita which I purchased back in March 2015, making it the 3rd release. I was aware that it wouldn’t be like the original shade, but I happened to like it very much on me. It is a true MLBB shade and I love the wear and feel of it. The version of Lolita that comes in the lip duo is very similar to the 3rd release, however I find it to be a tiny bit darker (see swatches below). It still is a very nice colour for tanned-skin individuals which pulls more mauve, however pale-skinned individuals may not like it because it would probably pull very brown, which was the main issue that people were having with newer versions of Lolita.

I was worried that this shade wouldn’t look very nice on me because I thought that it would pull too orange, since it is described as a ‘terracotta’ shade. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite flattering and does not look too bright. I was also hesitant to buy this because I thought that Lolita II was going to be too similar to Double Dare (which I already own), however they are fairly different. As seen in the swatches below, Double Dare is more pink whereas Lolita II leans more coral. So if you’re holding back from buying this duo because you think that Double Dare and Lolita II may be dupes, I am here to tell you that they are definitely not.

Overall, I’d say that this duo is great, especially if you don’t already own Lolita, however I do find that the newer releases of these liquid lipsticks feel a little more dry. That’s just a minor issue that can easily be fixed by wearing a waxy lip balm underneath, so it’s really not that big of a deal. To wrap it up, I highly recommend this set and any other shade in the KVD ELL line. They’re one of the best liquid lipsticks I’ve used in terms of wear, longevity, and shade selection, so if you haven’t already tried them out, please do so!
