EMPTIES | February 2016

Another month down brings another batch of empties. Unfortunately, I don’t have much to share with you all from the month of February, however I’m happy to say that I really enjoyed the products I used up. If you want to learn more about what I’ve gone through the past month, please keep reading.

Fresh Rose Face Mask

I received this deluxe sample size in a Sephora goodie bag a while back and just got around to finishing it. It was a very generous sample so it lasted me quite some time. It’s available at Sephora for $72 CAD. Yes, the price is steep, however it does come in a pretty big jar (3.3 oz ≈ 100 mL) so it would probably last for a long time. Before we go on, here are its claims from the Sephora website:

Historically romantic and classically fragrant, the rose flower yields a precious oil brimming with nutrients that naturally soothe the skin and stimulate the senses. Infused with 50 percent pure rosewater and an average of two-and-a-half roses per jar, this unique mask restores radiance and suppleness to all skin types. The addition of cucumber extract and aloe vera reduce inflammation and calm the skin, while green tea helps brighten and protect.

It’s described so romantically, and honestly, I think the claims do stand for the most part. Upon opening the jar, the product looks a little unappealing. It’s a brown goo with chunks of what appears to be rose petals, however it smells SO FRIGGIN GOOD! I personally love rose-scented things, but this is by far the nicest smelling rose product I’ve come across (tied with the Chloé perfume). The scent isn’t too overpowering but definitely isn’t subtle. The texture of the mask is runny and gel-like, but when applied to the skin feels so nice, cool, and refreshing. It spreads nicely and you don’t really need too much product. I would apply this mask whenever I felt that my skin was feeling a little dry, dull, or irritated. It made me feel relaxed and it made my skin feel quite soft and had an ethereal glow after I removed it, however it doesn’t do anything else apart from that. Over time, I didn’t see a noticeable difference from using this face mask, however I can’t really speak more about that since I didn’t use this mask often enough to see any noticeable differences. I wouldn’t say that this is an absolute need, however I really like the way this mask makes my skin feel and look. An added bonus is that it also does everything it claims to do. I don’t think I’m going to rush to buy it only because I have several other masks that I need to use up, but I will definitely repurchase it in the near future.

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils

I redeemed this sample as a 100 pt perk from Sephora. It’s available at Sephora for $37 CAD, which is quite expensive for a mascara, however I’ve spent more absurd amounts on mascara and would do it again for a product that is worth it. This is my first YSL beauty product that I’ve tried and I did have high hopes for it. Here are its claims on the Sephora website:

Yves Saint Laurent MASCARA VOLUME EFFET FAUX CILS Luxurious Mascara achieves an intense, dramatic lash look in a single stroke, for lashes that stop traffic with the blink of an eye. Its secret is the Triple-Film Complex: a film-coating for intensity, a conditioning film for curve, and a fixing film for long-lasting effectiveness.

Bold claims for a “bold” mascara. To start, I will say that I really liked this mascara. It separated my lashes beautifully and made them look wispy and full. However, I wouldn’t say that it made them look very dramatic. My lashes weren’t very bold and voluminous, but it was an OK trade-off since they made them look defined but it a more natural way. My lashes were separated and coated with product with absolutely no clumps. The formula was nice as well. It was a happy medium between thin and waxy, and it never flaked off or smudged throughout the day. With all that said, I’m undecided about whether I would spend the money on this since I know of (and much prefer) some other higher end mascaras which I would rather buy over this one at that price range, but if this was available again as a 100 pt perk, I would pick another one up with no hesitation.

MAC False Lash Extreme Black Mascara

I previously reviewed this product in another post, and needless to say, I’m a fan of this product. As long as MAC keeps providing free samples of these bad boys, this will remain my HG bottom lash mascara.

Do you guys have any empties for the month?

Have you tried any of the products mentioned?
