REVIEW | NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

I promise this will be the last NYX lip product that I review in a while – they’re just too hard to resist! Now that the brand is much more accessible in Canada, I find myself gravitating toward their lip products more and more whenever I’m in the drugstore. They’re just always coming up with new products in strange shades, so obviously I need to try them out. The NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick is not one of their newest releases, and I was pretty late to jump on the bandwagon with these. I decided to pick up a couple shades, one of them being very “out there”. If you’d like to know what my thoughts are on these products, keep reading!

I bought these lipsticks from the NYX Canada website for $9.99 CAD each. There are currently only a few shades in the line, some of them being more common shades, such as nudes, pinks, and reds, while some are very different and vibrant. I believe that the line is about to expand and will include more very unique shades, which is really exciting, especially for an affordable drugstore brand. I picked up two shades: Vintage, which is a plum with a mauve undertone, and Stone Fox, which is a deep grey with a blue undertone. The packaging is okay; nothing specially really. The applicator is identical to the ones used for the NYX Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks – a stiff, doe-foot applicator.

The formula is somewhat thin, but not watery. It is quite pigmented and applies opaquely. The scent is not entirely pleasant, but it also isn’t bad enough that it’s unusable. These do not dry down matte; they have more of a satin finish. They glide on very nicely on the lips and I find that it does give off a slight effect of velvety lips. They don’t sink into the crevaces of the lips and don’t make them look dry either. I was quite satisfied with the shades that I picked up. Vintage is a gorgeous deep red for individuals with darker skin tones. Stone Fox was definitely different. I thought it looked pretty cool but I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough to wear it out, so hopefully I’ll be able to find some other uses for it.

These are not long lasting at all, however they do stain a little. They transfer like crazy, making them quite messy when eating or drinking something. Since they aren’t really matte, they are quite comfortable to wear, however they are a high maintenance, especially the darker shades, since they smudge very easily.

Final Thoughts

The NYX Liquid Suede cream lipsticks are only okay in books. They do look nice on, they’re comfortable to wear, and I find the shade selection to be quite intriguing, however I think they’re just way too high maintenance to wear out on a regular basis, and especially on special occasions. I would say they transfer way more than the NYX Soft Matte lip creams, and having to constantly check whether I have smudges of lipstick all over my face throughout the day isn’t something I’m willing to do.

Have you tried any of the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks?
