Since I didn’t have many empties to share this month, I decided to shake it up a bit and write a post on some of the products I’ve been loving this month. I’m guessing I can alternate between these two types of posts every month depending on what seems more interesting. Given that I can be a creature of habit, I could be using the same stuff every month and won’t have anything to report on, so at least having the choice between monthly favourites and empties would help prevent these posts from being too monotonous. A lot of the items I’m about to write about are products that I’ve been using for months, and there’s some that are relatively new to my collection but could quickly be staples in my routine. If you’d like to learn more about my June 2016 favourites, please keep reading.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
I’ve been using this powder consistently for a couple months to set my under-eye area. I apply a generous amount to set my concealer, almost like I’m baking, and it keeps my under eye concealer creaseless all day. I also love how this powder doesn’t have any flash back in photos, which is a problem I usually have with powders since my skin it slightly darker. The only issue I have with this product is how messy it can get, and it’s just not as practical as a pressed powder. However, I’ll take the mess over creasing concealer any day!
Benefit Roller Lash
I believe I’ve mentioned this mascara previously on my blog, but I’ve actually grown to like it quite a bit. I’m not sure what it is about the sample size and the full size, but I’ve been loving the way my lashes look using this mascara. It doesn’t hold a curl as well as a waterproof mascara would on my lashes, however I find that it does curl my lashes slightly and makes them look fanned out while keeping them clump free. I enjoy not having to fuss about my lashes, especially on days where I’m running late for work and can’t be bothered to make them look perfect.
Revlon Balm Stain – Romantic
This was actually a repurchase I made since I finished the first one I’ve had completely. These balms are amazing for days when you just want a little bit of colour on the lips without the hassle. I especially love the shade “Romantic” because it gives the perfect flush of red. The balm itself isn’t very moisturizing, but I love how it leaves a nice stain without drying the lips out. This has been my go to lip product this month and I expect it to remain in my summer routine.
MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation – C40
I bought this powder on a whim because my beloved Tarte powder foundation is just too dark for me at the moment. I was interested in trying this product out because I’ve heard so many raving reviews about it, so I figured I’d take advantage of the sale that MAC had a while back and try it. The shade C40 is amazing, but while it matches my face perfectly, it is a little too light to match the rest of my body. Regardless, it has amazing coverage; definitely on the medium to full coverage side. It blends in very well on the skin and doesn’t feel too heavy.
The only thing with this foundation that I found a little disappointing is the fact that it can look a bit cakey if applied too heavily, therefore I probably wouldn’t use this as a foundation alone, but rather as a setting powder or just a light powder for every day just to get some coverage. I never reapply this foundation so I won’t have to worry about it getting cakey throughout the day, but that’s definitely something to consider. It doesn’t necessarily keep me completely oil-free for an extended period of time, but I’m just really impressed with the coverage, colour match, and I love it for its effortless application.
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
This is another oldie but a goodie which I’ve already mentioned in a previous post. This bronzer is probably one of the best I’ve used. It applies the perfect sun-kissed shade which blends in beautifully onto the skin, it smells amazing, and it’s great to use in an office setting since it is matte. I also like contouring with this product since it has a slightly warm tinge to it. Sometimes, cool-toned powders just look too muddy on my skin tone whereas this helps make the contour a bit more natural looking.
