Somewhat recently, I noticed that MAC released some new lip products, a line called Shot of Colour lip oils. Lip oils generally are products I enjoy as they are moisturizing, not as shiny as a gloss but certainly more comfortable and less sticky, and bonus points if they have a decent tint to them. These seemed to fit the bill, so I picked up three shades: Punch-Drunk Love, which is described as a ‘soft pinkish coral’, Hit Me Up, described as ‘deep mauvey rose’, and Let’s Go Streakin!, described as ‘terracotta red’. As always, read on for some swatches, comparisons to other MAC lipstick shades, and a few thoughts.

Comparisons to other MAC lipsticks

The shades that I picked up aren’t really anything new, especially among the selection MAC already offers. The formula of the Shot of Colour Lip Oil, however, is definitely different from the typical MAC lip products, and I’d even go as far to say that it’s one of my favourites from all their lip offerings.
Thoughts
The main benefits of this product are: instant moisture, high shine, and a “more-than-flushed tint on lips”, according to the description of this product. I agree that this product delivers on all those claims. The tint is pigmented enough to show some colour on the lips, however I don’t think the stain it leaves lasts very well after the product wears off. I find my lips do remain hydrated, though, which I really appreciate. Of course, one feature I have to discuss is the new applicator:

It’s a curved applicator which is meant to hug the curve of your lips while also allowing it to grab onto the lip oil and easily distribute it. At first I thought it was kind of gimmicky and would feel a bit weird. While I don’t actually mind it, I still prefer traditional doe-foot applicators. I think this one is too small and a slightly too stiff.
Overall, I enjoy this product and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a slightly tinted, moisturizing lip product for low maintenance looks.
